• Scientists have a responsibility to inform the general public, because scientific advance has an influence on future social developments.
• Scientists are part of society. The open dialog between scientists and the general public should be improved. This is the basis for trust in science.
• All types of results (positive, negative, and inconclusive) obtained in accordance with good scientific practice are important, help to avoid unintended duplication or repetition of experiments and should be published under consideration property rights.
• The scientific community publishes in specialist journals using scientific jargon and should also communicate this to the general public. There should be an explicit policy in research institutes and universities to support this.
